Default Soil/Sediment build up in Mains Water- Leak?

I changed my washing machine the other day and there was a literally a
puddle of soft mud underneath it, soil seems to be getting through the
mains into my house, the water also has a slight yellow tint. Could it
be a leak on the mains?

Have you checked the incoming supply lines for leaks? Also, have you
checked the drain for backup when unit is draining? Probably one or the
other. Stay/watch/and check all lines during each cycle.

There is no "soil" getting into your main water supply. Remember that the
water line is at 40+ psi.
No dirt or anything else can get into it.
The crud under your washer was probably due to a very slow leak in one of
the washer's connections, gaskets, whatever.
Over time, residue of soapsuds, etc would look like dirt.
If your water supply has a tint, it is likely to be from rust on the inside
of steel pipes either on your property, or more likely in the
mains out in the street. The amount of solids in the water is extremely
small.
