Installing Double-cylinder Deadbolt
When considering double-cylinder deadbolts (which require a key to
operate from either side) for more safety in your home, keep in mind that the bolt (the part that extends from the door) should be at least one inch long, and should be hardened steel. The strike (the plate that the bolt sticks into) should be installed with screws long enough to engage the structural stud behind the doorframe (and not just the door frame or trim like many are currently installed). To add security, doors in homes should swing in to prevent any attack on the hinges. If your door swing outward, it should be installed on non-removable pin hinges or the hinges should be "pinned" (remove the screw from opposing positions on both top and bottom hinges, and drive a pin or nail into one of the holes. When the door is closed, this pin engages the matching hole and holds the door in place even if the hinge pin is removed). Installing Double-cylinder Deadbolt
Please change this paragraph:
Schlage is the leader in security devices, trusted for more than 85 years. When you install Schlage® products, you know your home is secure. When you safeguard your home, family and business with Schlage®, you ensure your security as well as your peace of mind. Schlage®, is committed to creating safe and secure environments. Schlage® products span both the commercial and residential markets. Commercial grade quality is built into every Schlage® product. Make it read: Schlage recently suffered some terrible redesigns. They now have a deadbolt which might be dead, but the bolts aren't very secure. The old B-160 were really great. But the new ones (360??) have a bolt that has nothing there. Their keyed entry knobs, they went from rather good design with two piece outer knob to a one piece thing. The new cylinders are totally inadequate, and a really poor design which is almost impossible to service. We no longer reccomend residential Schlage to anyone. -- Christopher A. Installing Double-cylinder Deadbolt
1) Give me an example of a deadbolt with more than one inch bolt
throw? 2) Strong strike plates are excellent idea. 3) Double deadbolts are a safety problem, too easy to get locked in, in case of fire. 4) The pin and hole thing is a good idea, my lock parts house used to sell some kind of thing like that. Can't remember what it was called. -- Christopher A. Young You can't shout down a troll. You have to starve them. .. "Locks Pro" wrote in message ups.com... better off with a LONG cyclinder deadbot. thjat goes thru not only the
striker plate but the 2by4 wall too. You know fussing about a better door lock is a loser, crooks go the easiest path probably thru a nice glass window. They dontr want to work hard |

Open latch and go in. After ripping owner's **** off. Go into frig for a snack and admire owner's vault door from inside. Cut hole in wall between studs with sawsall. Proceed to snack as above. Rediculous? A lot less aggravation than an "ATTACK [lol] on the hinges." Cut hole in wall with two buck utility knife. Billion dollar door and locks with vinyl siding and rmax only. Don't forget to stop for a snack on the way out. If there's a NY cheesecake, grab the whole thing. |

Would that be Viagra for deadbolts? Rock hard, and three inches
longer? -- Christopher A. Young You can't shout down a troll.
