Default Metal roofing

What's a good source on cost and benefits of these type of roofs, in terms
of replacing a regular asphalt shingle roof?

We live in an area with high sun intensity and frequent winds up to 50 mph.

Any thoughts or opinions? Does it effect insurance rates?

i had a gerard roof put on a few years ago. it was about 1/3 more than
the high rated arch. shingle. i talked to the roofer last month and he
said he has not done any metal roofs lately do to the cost of metal. the
price has gone up 2 to 3 times. my insurance did not give me a break i
live in central ohio. but some insurance co's do give breaks to areas
where fire and wind is a big possibility. good luck i am happy with mine.

I had a Gerard roof put on about six years ago. Probably cost about the
same as the heavy shake it replaced. Expensive but my insurance gave me
a 27% discount on home owners insurance because of the class 4 hail
resistance (In Denver area).

I put on the ones that look like tile (Cyprus color). Many can't
believe it's not tile until they look close.

Looks a good as the day it was installed. I think it really enhanced
the value of the house. Looked at concrete tile but it was too brittle
and Clay tile was too heavy.

I'll just say if I could have afforded it, I'd have gone to a metal
roof in a heartbeat.

Its pricey, but great.
