Xeno Book? The slides come with an instruction sheet. You can see a typical instruction sheet on the top unit of this item http://www.leevalley.com/hardware/pa...=3,43597,43601 Or is there something more specific you need to know? |

The instruction sheets that come with the chinese crap from Home depot are written in chinglish and do not give me such information as where to place the slide on the side of the drawer, and how much clearance for the cabinet member. The one drawing with any dimensions makes no sense. www. Libertyhardware.com has some illustrations but even their "customer service" can't figure out their own drawings. McM |

However I employ Usenet groups in the hope of cutting down time by not reinventing the wheel. Obviously Amazon.com ,Barnes and Noble, etc as well as my public libraries have books on cabinet making BUT then I'd have to peruse each of them hoping to find what I want. Here I was HOPING someone might say " ...get Joe Blows Cabinets for Idiots Chap 13...." But alas not so far. McM |

On the first item, the 8" slide, you have to click on the little "Instr" under it and the link will open to the instructions. |

It's too trivial a problem to devote much attention to. You want the slides to be level, parallel to each other, square to the face of the cabinet, and the same distance apart as whatever's sliding on/in them. That's all the generic advice you're gonna find. If you buy a specific set of slides in a cardboard box or plastic bag, they may (or may not) come with their own instructions. Put in the drawer slides. Put in the drawer. Figure out why the drawer doesn't draw. fix it. After a couple times around, you'll have it down. |

Thanks ,missed that on my first try. Now, if I can figure out the first step in the instructions I'll be good. That's what I am looking for , instructions that tell me HOW to determine the placement of the slides on the cabinet and the drawer sides. Note in the instructions you are only told the "setback" position of the slides not their "height" on the side of the drawer or cabinet. Apparently that is what one must "determine", so HOW is it determined? Just being lazy and want "boot heel" instructions rather than tax my brain with empiric thought. Thanks McM |

While at Lowes I was perusing the various books on cabinet making and general carpentry. While it was "how to drive a nail" it was close. A comparison of different hammers for what type of jobs. I have found some drawer slides that appear to be idiot proof. I shall find out soon. I don't know about the triviality of the subject since it appears there are no real straight answers to it. Didn't want to reinvent the wheel but will if I have to. McM |

Can anyone point me to a GOOD book with a GOOD description of installing drawer slides? Web is useless too many folks trying to sell the slides and no advice. Xeno A book might give good advice, but installation depends on the style of cabinet and slides. We had new doors, drawers, hardware and cabinet faces put on our old cabinets. The drawer hardware has no visible brand name, but looks simple to install. Hardware is enamel metal with nylon rollers. Hardware sits on bottom side edges of drawer, and along bottom of opening on the cabinet side. As it turned out, two drawers (out of 11) were a tad too narrow and didn't track right. Corrected that easily by putting a couple of small metal washers behind the cabinet part of the slide to bring it closer and narrow the opening. Work great, smoothe, sturdy. Decent hardware should come with clear instructions and/or templates where indicated. Have you done a google search on the brand you are considering? I found a couple of websites, looking for something else, that might be helpful. Rockler sells a lot of cabinet stuff, including Accuride cab. hardware - good websites, sample instructions for one style of slides: http://www.woodworking-heaven.flower...r-slides.shtml http://images.rockler.com/tech/RTD10000081AA.pdf I once had cabinets with center-mount glides - worked nicely but installed with staples! Kids used the drawers to climb on and pulled glides loose ) They don't do it any more ) |
