toilet repair
i finally got rid of the insides of my toilet and bought one of those
"toilet tank complete repair kits" at HD made by Fluidmaster. 1. the handle wasn't in the box, even though it should be. 2. the gasket is bigger than the one i took off. you can see the gasket when looking at the toilet. thus, after the bolts are in, the tank rocks a little. that ok? the gasket doen'st leak. 3. i have a tiny leak (very tiny) where the water goes into the tank at the bottom, the supply line. i used some plumber's gel, (not putty and i can't remmeber the name) and that cut down. but not all. how do you completely stop the leak? am i missing something? 4. the rest works. flushes fine and fills good i guess. just worried if i did it right. |

1. if you want a new handle, take the old handle to the store and buy a
new one like it. the nut probably is a left handed thread. be careful to measure the handle's hole size and shape. take a picture. 2. no, take the old gasket to the store and buy one the same size. their sizes do vary. no rocking is permitted it will cause a water supply leak in the future. 3. wrong, no leaking whatsoever is permitted. no goop or gel is needed. 4. re-d the directions. we use fluidmaster parts on twenty toilets but some tank-to-bowl gaskets vary. wax gaskets vary due to floor flanges altitude related to floor altitude. if the commode bowl on the floor rocks your plastic horn wax seal may need to be replaced with a plain wax seal that fits. see also www.fluidmaster.com for excellent free website support. |

"buffalobill" in
oups.com: 2. no, take the old gasket to the store and buy one the same size. their sizes do vary. no rocking is permitted it will cause a water supply leak in the future. if this is the large gasket surrounding the flush valve, then ... i've seen thos called "sponge" gaskets 3. wrong, no leaking whatsoever is permitted. no goop or gel is needed. might need a new supply tube. could check for rough or gouged sealing surfaces. |
