Default Wireless intercom

I'm looking for a wireless (and hopefully battery powered) intercom that
will support 3 or 4 stations which is somewhat secure. I don't need
STU-III like security but I don't want something that anyone within
range can listen to.

My house is about 150 ft long and there is a lot of structural steel in
it so range may be an issue. (I've had to install a repeater to get
802.11g access throughout but that solved the problem.)

Any suggestions will be appreciated.

Uhhh, intercom + security? Sorry, it doesn't seem to make sense.
You set the level and anyone within range hears what sounds it
put out. Something must be missing?

Some cordless phone systems are extensive in what they offer , you buy a
base with handset and buy extra handsets

Right. I had a two-line Motorola cordless phone about eight years ago
that scrambled the transmission between handset and base. Don't recall
if it also scrambled the intercom transmission. Worth looking into.

Anyway, how close to other houses is this 150' long house? Usually a
house that large isn't that close to its neighbors, and as you found
out with the wireless network, the transmission range is limited.

Not too close to neighbors but frequently numerous boats moored within
100 to 200 ft.

I'll call Motorola and see what they have.

Did you hear about the woman who was plotting to kill her husband?

She was using a cordless phone and neighbor's heard her on the baby
monitor. She's in jail now, and so is her boyfriend.

Examine your lineage. Find irrefutable evidence of Native American
background. Declare your family an endangered tribe. Secede and
establish a reservation. Enact a 12 mile territorial boundary as per
this:

The Territorial Sea
(0 to 12 Nautical Miles)
Under international law, every coastal nation has sovereignty over the
air space, water column, seabed, and subsoil of its territorial sea,
subject to certain rights of passage for foreign vessels and, in more
limited circumstances, foreign aircraft.
For almost two hundred years, beginning with an assertion by Secretary
of State
Thomas Jefferson in 1793, the United States claimed a territorial sea
out to 3 miles. In 1988, President Reagan proclaimed a 12-mile
territorial sea for the United States, consistent with provisions in
the LOS Convention. The proclamation extended the territorial sea only
for purposes of international law, explicitly stating that there was no
intention to alter domestic law.

That takes care of the too-close boaters.

There are other benefits. You can sell cigarettes without paying
taxes. You can open up your own casino. You won't know what to do
with all the money.

When you finish, please contact me for my Cayman Island bank account
number so you can send me my $63 million dollar consulting fee.
That'll probably be less than your kids' allowances, so count yourself
lucky.
