Default what's the unit of gas detector reading?

Today, a technician from our local gas company (KeySpan, in New
England) came to our house to do some checking. He used a digital
natural gas detector to take some reading around the gas meter outside
the house. The reading varies from 0 to 0.20 (in 0.05 increments). He
didn't say there is any problem. Now I am curious what the unit is
(which I forgot to ask).

Doesn't anybody know what the unit is? Is it ppm? Can gas detector
detect 0.05ppm? Or the unit is something else?

If there is really a need or preference for a ng just for pros then it
would seem to be a relatively easy thing to get an alt.hvac.pro created
instead of getting indignant and rude everytime someone posts a question
that is completely on-topic according to the name of the group. It's a
losing battle.

While someone following this ng and a group like alt.home.repair might
come to know what the preference of *some* people is but the average person
with a question about HVAC is going to come up with the name of this group
and post here. No logical reason why they wouldn't (I'll leave aside the
argument pro or con as to whether they shouldn't). Some of the naysayers
then post message after message of obscenities in response when they could
simply choose not to respond (as I'm sure others do) while knowing full
well that it will not make the slightest difference.

When someone posts more bitching than anything else it's easy to see why
some would draw the conclusion that such a person does that because that is
really what they enjoy doing not because of some desire to "defend" the
newsgroup. Because *if* the ng needs defending (and I'm not sure it does)
ignoring posts one feels do not belong works even better and doesn't add to
the superfluous posts one has to wade through. I mean I thought that was
the point--it's not like a homeowner posting is going to take space away
from a pro posting.

"This has been discussed and discussed, to the point of disgust".
