Hi all. When looking at engine strength, is a higher cc rating a stronger
engine (for example 25 cc vs. 31 cc) or is the lower cc stronger, like the

It is difficlut to say which is stronger, but the larger number makes for a
bigger motor. The cc is cubic centimeters. Just like cubic inches only in
the meteric system. You would usually think the bigger number would make
for more horsepower but maybe not.

Larger number is generally better as it means more displacement (cubic
centimeters). While it is true in most cases, there will always be an
exception. Which is more powerful, a big V-8 or a tiny four cylinder
engine? There are plenty of smaller displacement 4 cylinder engines that
put out more power than a big V-8. Just look at most Indy cars.

Once you have the engine size, you have to know what to do with it in terms
of carburetion, exhaust tuning, valving, etc.

Higher no. means bigger eingine but not necessarily stronger some cases.
It all depends how it is designed.

Strictly speaking, under controlled conditions and only
varying the number of cc's, the large cc's has the most
power. That's what I think you're asking.

Usually the larger the number of cc's (cubic
centimeters), the more power as long as you are
comparing apples to apples. eg a 30 cc weed trimmer
won't have the working power of a 50 cc weed trimmer of
the same type and design.

But, taking a 100 cc engine from one place and
installing it in another place, to replace say a 75cc
engine won't necessarily translate to more power
delivered to the load. Too many variables, plus what
others have mentioned when you get deeper into it.

If you're comparing a B&S engine to say a Tecumseh, the
same cc engine in each will not necessarily deliver the
same power so a few cc difference isn't much of an
indicator. Magnitudes of cc's change though are
pretty sure that the higher cc engine will have the
more power in those two engines are they're close but
NOT the same in design.
