Hi,

I'll be tiling a shower and we're using 6" tiles. We want to cut the
edges of seceral tiles to accomodate a 2" x 2" accent tile. I was
wondering if anyone has made a jog or has advice on how to do this so
all the cuts are similar?

There are several ways. What are you cutting the tile with?

Do you mean a three sided cut in the side of the edge or a diagonal cut
*across* two edges?

Former would be a PITA, latter is easy...you just need a way of placing
each tile you want to cut in the same position. Methodology for doing
that could already be built in on whatever you are using to cut or you
could just make a wooden "L" the size of the tile, clamp it into the
correct position and start cutting.

I'm using a wet saw and cutting one corner off each tile. Its a
diagonal cut and will be the same for each tile.

fwiw if your saw doesn't have an angle tool with it, clamping jigs to
wet saw tables usually doesn't work well. the clamps get in the way etc.

2 steps.

Place four of your field tiles together on the floor forming a square.
Lay your 2" accent piece in the center. Get it centered and mark your
tiles, making sure their equal. Once you've arrived at the size you
need to cut the tiles surrounding the accent tile, proceed to step 2.

Cut one of your tiles in half from corner to corner. Lay the long side
of one of the pieces (which is now your new 'jig tile') against the back
edge of the table closest to you. The point will be facing away from
you with the side of it at a 45o to the blade. Lay one of the tiles you
need to clip the corner off of against that side of your new 'jig'.
This will automatically place the full tile at a 45o angle to the blade
so that when you run that tile through the blade you'll be cutting off a
45o angle. Keeping the long side of your jig tucked against the table
edge, adjust your jig left to right on the table in conjunction with the
blade to give you the size cut you need for the field tile when you lay
it next to the jig. Holding both tiels down run the tiel through the
blade cutting off the corner. Cut four tiles this way and again lay
them out on the floor in a square. You should have a diamond shaped
hole in the center that corresponds with your accent piece. As I said,
you may need to slightly adjust your jig closer or farther away from the
blade as this will determine the amount you cut off of the corner, as
needed for grout joint allowance etc.

Once you've established this you can mark along side the jig tile on top
of the table with a marker for future reference if needed, then you know
where to place it. If your saw has a rubber top on the table just make
a reference mark(s) somewhere on the back fo the table edge.

Clear as mud?

doesn't this only work if your tiles are square?
