Default "California Closets" Prices Etc.

Hi --

We have a nice walk in closet and at the time the house was built
(1950), I'm sure that the closet design and built ins were state of
the art. We have been toying with the idea of remodeling our closet
with an eye on the "Califonia Closet" style.

In researching the various companies, none of them (of course) mention
anything in the way of pricing. I am curious if anyone has any
experience with this and could recommend an appropriate budget. I am
not handy in any way so unfortunately need a service to install. I
would say our area is rectangular 7 ft width x 14 ft length and 10ft
ceilings. One man, one woman.

Thanks!

There is an excellent article on closet design in the current issue of
Taunton Press' Inspired Home magazine. IIRC, they compare the different
companies and give an estimate on to expect price-wise from the different
levels of service. HTH

If you're concerned about prices, you might want to see what is available at
your local Lowe's and Home Depot. Have a design in mind for how to best use
your closet? I did by looking at what was in the closet and what else I was
trying to get in there. My last house needed more nitch storage, so I took
two of the those tall cubby hole structures and shortened the hanging space.
In my current house, I had plenty of nitch space, but not enough hanging
space. I looked at what type of clothes I had and realized I only had a few
items that needed the entire length of the closet so made two hanging bars
rather than one. Took pine 4 x 1's to make a nice area to hold the bars.
The closet is rather tall, so still had room for the traditional ledge a
little higher than usual. I put blankets there in summer. It works
extremely well. In both cases, it cost a fraction of the speciality stores.
