Furniture arrangement software
Hello,
I am looking for an application that will allow me to try visually arranging furniture in a room. Something like Ikea's "home planner" applications but not limited to Ikea furniture. Thank you! -- To email, replace myrealbox with alexoren. |

But for once-in-a-blue-moon, the low-tech method works fine, and is dirt cheap. Draw the furniture on one sheet and cut it out, draw the rooms on the other, and arrange away. Sandwich between glass, and you can even flip it and Xerox possible layouts to compare. Kinda fun- almost like being back in grade school again. But if you really want software, most of the home architect programs include an interior design plugin, and let you plug in colors and fly through the space in 3-d, etc. A lot of setup time, though, especially to get the furniture sprites to size-match what you actually own. aem sends.... |

I missed the original post, but I used:
http://www.furniture.com/Common/roomplanner/ (free!) to arrange our home office. we added a 4-drawer filing cabinet, two oak shelf units (3'x4'x6' and standard 'entertainment center') plus two small bookshelves(1'x3' and 1'x4.5')to a bedroom that already had 2 desks with full-tower computers, 2 4-drawer filing cabinets, a 2-drawer filing cabinet, 3 bookshelves, and a twin sized bed. The only thing we removed was the bed. We now have tons more storage and floor space. I am modifying Autodesk QuickCAD 8 and developing a program for the
interior design courses at the college where I teach. It has furniture symbols in the program that you just click and drag to place in a room. You can make the room the size and shape you need then place and rearrange the furniture symbols. If there is no symbol exactly like the f urniture, you can draw a new symbol or modify an existing one. You can also drag and drop color into the symbols. If you scan bitmap images of fabrics and wood, you can drag and drop those into the drawings also. Hope to have the program available within a few months. -- Pat T "Alex Oren" wrote in message om...
