Finished major job and the paint failed. Remodeled kitchen and
bathrooms less than 6 months ago. All surfaces were sanded and primed
with Kilv. Painted "new" cabinet doors (27), kitchen & bathroom
cabinets, baseboard/trim, wood "room entry " doors (2), metal louvered
doors (2) with "Glidden Gloss White Commercial Grade Enamel;
Interior/Exterior Ultra Hide Oil Alkyd Gloss; GL 3518-0100 White". The
existing paint on the trim was Benjamin Moore Oil base enamel
(confirmed w/ receipts and "paint-can" before beginning project). All
painted surfaces including the paint running down the front of the can
has yellowed! There are no smokers in the house. The air conditioning
or heat is running at all times depending on the season. Urgently need
to know if other folks have same results with the Gliddin Ultra Hide
Oil Alkyd Gloss white paint. Before beginning the project, the cabinet
maker and I discussed the surfaces to be covered with Home Depot paint
department employee who advised this was the best paint to use for
each surface and recommended to prime with Kilv. Now the Glidden
Representative says if there is not sunlight in the house the paint
will yellow. How can a product be legally labeled "Interior /
Exterior" when the sunlight is not shining in houses on baseboard,
cabinets, doors, etc. and artificial lights are not on in every room
24/7? Representative also referred me to label on can in small print
that states "Important: Alkyd or oil-based enamels may yellow in time
in the absence of light, especially sunlight." (Is this "may" to be
intrepreted as "will"? Is "in time" to be intrepreted as immediately?
The painting was completed Nov 2003 which is less than 6 months! I
certainly appreciate a few minutes of your time if you will please
email me @ and post to this news group any suggestions
