persuade him to get a specific model, provided it's within the price
range. So what's the best dishwasher out there under $200?

I suggest you check Consumer Reports' Annual Buying Guide. They
have done a review on dish washers that you might find helpful.

I would "pursuade" your landlord to atleast get you a dishwasher with
an upper and lower spray arm. You will be unhappy with one that only
has the lower arm,even if it has a pop-up "spray tower". If I had only
a couple hundred bucks to spend on a dishwaqsher, I'd go to Home Depot
or Lowes and get a Frigidare with the 2 spray arms. The are quiet,have
a low water consumption.

I disagree.

My experiences have been that the extra spray arm contributes little - if
anything to the overall cleaning power, even of the items on the top rack.

The upper spray arm may work for one reason, though: a dishwasher could be
improperly loaded through ignorance or neglect. But nothing is foolproof.

A well designed system has plenty of cleaning power from the floor up.
It's what, 21 or 22 inches to the ceiling from the water level?

Can you say "sales gimmicks"?
