Better go talk to the licensing people where you live for what the
regulations on such a place are.

I would start with your local building code office. At a minimum, I'd suspect
you may need an exterior extrance to the living quarters.

Next stop is the zoning department. Depending on local zoning, it may not be
allowed.

Or reverse the above steps.
