Default Radiators bang when heat comes on

Is there anything I can do about the radiators banging? The clanging
is loud enough to wake the dead.

Take away their Viagra?

Seriously now, is this perhaps an old one-pipe steam system? In
those, steam rising can collide with condensate returning, causing
clanging. These systems are ultra-sensitive to pipe pitch.

If it s 2-pipe steam or 1 or 2 pipe HW system, its probably nothing
but thermal expansion. Maybe you'd be able to track down the exact
places and see if there is anything that can be done about rubbing
catching hitting points, but not much to be done, these don't usually
make more than littles click and ticks, its the 1-pipe steam that are
really loud.

Steam system? First, look at the water level in the boiler. Make sure it's
not overfilled.
