Default leaking tub???

I have a two story house i noticed a wet ceiling in my garage i think
its coming from my upstairs tub???? any ideas on how to check where
its coming from? i also took off the on/off knob and plate i can see
some of the pipes the are dusty so i don't think its coming from the
shower i took off the overflow cap and the pipe behind it has a gray
rubber like seal which is not evenly around the hole the pipe is also
slightly mobile.any one with a hint on how to check each thing out...
i do need to re-caulk this tub it 4years old which could be my whole
problem but not i dont want to seal it up then wait to see if my
ceiling falls through?

No access door/panel on the other side of the tub wall?
If not, you are stabbing in the dark. I would cut a hole
in the garage ceiling for inspection.

Yes, the o'flow gasket can be the cause. Showering, a lot
of water runs past the o'flow. Ditto for the caulking.

Agreed on all counts. You wanna get that ceiling dry asap anyway to
prevent mold growth, so buy a drwywall handsaw set for a few bucks,
and cut a hole and have a look see. Just be thankful it's your garage
ceiling and your repair of the drywall won't be so noticeable.

Caulking is a very frequent cause of these issues. That overflow
gasket should be easy enough to replace and eliminate as a cause too.

Don't wait to patch that garage hole though--you want your garage to
be tight and not allow, say, exhaust gasses into your living areas.
