Default root warranty and water leaks

Hello,
I wanted to get others experiences regarding this problem.

We have a home that is approx. 6 years old. The
bedroom ceiling is showing mildew and water stains from
a minor leak. It doesn't leak anymore, but the stains are
bad.

would a roof warranty cover the repairs associated with this?

Any suggestions on possible causes of this. It's only in
one bedroom and there is no noticeable leak, but there are
bad stains and mildew.
THANKS

"We have a home that is approx. 6 years old. The

It must be one of those new self healing homes!

"would a roof warranty cover the repairs associated with this? "

Unlikely, but that depends on what kind of warranty you have. If you
have one, read it. Most new home warranty's would only cover major
structural issues at this point. A homeowner's policy is likely to
cover this. Whether your policy will and whether it's worth making the
claim depends on a lot of things. For one, the insurance company may
just claim that most of the damage is not from the leak, but from you
not doing anything to mitigate it for a long time. Mildew takes some
time to occur.

"Any suggestions on possible causes of this."

It's impossible to diagnose this without seeing it. It COULD be lots
of things. With a house only 6 years old, improper flashing would be a
leading possibility. Ice damming is a possibility depending on climate
and when the leak occurs. If there is an attic area where it leaks
have you gone up there to see where it's coming in when it rains? I'd
get a good contractor over immediately to cheak it out. Fixed early
this is a minor problem. Left until you have rot and mold, it can be
an extremely expensive one.
