Need used scope recommendation
Folks, I need to supplement my lab with a scope that has a delayed timebase and a
gate output for the delayed timebase. It would be a nice bonus if it had GPIB - especially if the delayed sweep could be manipulated remotely. (Don't know if any ever had that feature.) Discounting the Tek 2445/2465 due to the timebomb aspect, are there other choices not too much older (or more expensive) with the essential output ? Vertical BW of 100 MHz would be adequate but more would be valued. Any suggestions ? |

Sorry I probably can't help you out on this one, but you mentioned a
timebomb aspect ? At work I use a 2465 so I'm curious. If you could please elaborate I would appreciate it. BTW, what kind of bandwidth do you need ? You might do well looking at older scopes, they're less unitized. I've heard about the newer Teks, most of the vertical deflection is one big chip basically. Bad move. Tell ya, I'd like to hear from the respondants as well, I might just have to buy a scope one day. For now I'm OK, there's the 2465 at work (for now I guess) and a 7613 I could borrow from where I used to work, and I have 3 scopes myself but the fastest is like 20Mhz. All of this stuff is getting older and I like the way they build new things less and less with each passing day/month/hour/whatever. Of course there's always the ol 561 in the closet. Whopping 10 mc (mc, yes not Mhz) but it has delayed time base. The 422 is good enough for most NTSC TV work. The B&K I count, but it's not a Techtronix. Now I wonder where that old 301 went. I don't have a clue what happened to it. It was cool, the case split in two for access to the components, all on those ceramic binders s s s s s s s I'm going to shutup now, I'm starting to show my age. JURB |

JURB The 2465 has a very hard to find IC that has a high failure rate. New parts are NLA so you have to find a junk scope and hope the part is good. It's the horizontal output amp IC. U800,IIRC. It's a large DIP with a metal substrate visible, and threaded studs at either end. None of the 2400 hybrid ICs are available anymore, except salvaged from other scopes. -- Jim Yanik jyanik at kua.net |
