Default Heat sink compound

Hi;

You've seen it, the pink stuff. They use it on TVs sometimes, or used
to. It's real sticky and it doesn't harden for a long time. I believe
it's the same stuff you use a little teenzy tube of when installing a
processor in a PC, err heatsink actually.

That stuff, the stuff that is almost impossible to wash off your hands.
Yup, we all hate it, but now I have another use for it.

I need an "anti-lubricant". That is something to enhance friction,
rather than to abate it. This is for a mechanical contrivance I'm
pipedreaming up and it fits the bill. Without going into alot of
details, I'd simply like to buy some of that stuff in bulk. Cheapest
way to do it. By bulk I mean a pint, or maybe a bunch of those syringes
they used to sell. I'm not weak, but I got tired of standing there for
so long squeezing this thing hard.

The viscosity makes it hard to use for large devices. You don't even
want to SEE this **** if you're changing a pair of STK4278s. you might
as well pull the plunger and stick a screwdriver in it, for all the
TIME it take for the stuff to flow you could almost throw the rest out
! It's really too thick I think, but I want some anyway, just for
another use.

I just need a =BD pint, or even =BC pint would do. I'm not sure if this
is the solution, but I want to try it.

Google flopped on this.=20

Thanks in advance and for your time.

Hi Jurb...

Still have a tube of the stuff in my toolbox. Must be
at least 20 years old. Used to use it lots while I still
worked; only for the occasional heatsink nowdays.

Anyway, if it helps you find some, this particular
syringe (big one, 'bout 4 inches long, maybe an inch
diameter) is marked Sylvania - ECG 424 - and the description
on the label is simply Heat Sink Compound.

Take care.

Ken

PS - I'm getting a little too long in the tooth to press
that plunger hard for 5 minutes, too. So, a tip. If you'll
drop the whole durned thing into a sink fulla real hot water
for a while, it gets lots easier

I can not resist. Try stroking it not squeezing it to make it hard
