Default Testing used PC monitors ?

I see lots of monitors for sale real cheap at garge sales and there's
usually something wrong with them so apying more than a dollar is usually a
waste of time. I wonder if anyone has figured out a way top loop back any
connections on the video plug that might give one some idea if the thing
works?
