Default Tektronix 2465B Problems

I have a Tek 2465B that is giving me a 'test 05, fail 42' code on turn on.

After I clear it by pressing the A/B trig I believe, the unit seems to work
fine till about 10min later the picture seems to fade off. I'm not sure what
symptoms it has just yet because I haven't had a chance to screw around with
it, but I was wondering if the error code is tied in with the problem I see.

If anyone can help me, please let me know. I'd like to get this up and
running soon.

Thanks in advance!

Hi,

'test 05, fail 42' means: Test05 is main board, ADD mode tested.
fail42 means: positive level above upper internal limit.

So either the input amps are damaged or (more likely) you need a
recalbiration to this problem solved.

The "fade off" is more serious problem: Do you get a (compressed)
display on the screen when you press "beam find" button? If yes, it
might be just a problem with the input amp.
If not (more likely): U800 is the "magic circuit" that more or less
often tends to fail (== well known failure). Very hard to get
replaced.

Check Google for "tektronix 2465B problem" and you'll see lot's of
threads covering that topic.

It's a bit late right now, but I'll try to do some further testing tomorrow
and get back to you. Thanks a lot for your help!!!!

In a quick note, the scope seems to work fine after I press the trigger
button to get rid of the error, but after about 3min the screen shuts off,
if I move the position up and down, you can see a VERY fant light moving.
You have to really look though and if you didn't know any better, you
wouldn't think the scope wasn't on. All the other lights remain on. But if I
shut it off and turn it back on, the scope works fine again (still with the
error), but this time it goes off a lot quicker. My GUESS is that the heater
voltage is shutting off, but I don't know.

Thanks again
