Sony tv repair question
I own a 1985 Trinitron -- the on-off button simply doesn't function
any more, and now the picture's shot. Should I lug it to the repair guy? Is there any point? Will it work if I get the tube replacd, or should I simply get a new one? Thanks for your help, folks! |

Since you say the button failed, I assume the remote still turns the set on? You need to provide more details, also include a model number off the back. From the sounds of it the problem has nothing to do with the tube, when a TV malfunctions everyone always thinks it's the tube but 99% of the time it isn't. |

Sony tv repair question
when a TV malfunctions everyone always thinks it's the tube
but 99% of the time it isn't. Heheheh. Case in point, a friend of mine had a Sanyo TV. He suspected the problem was a blown tube because he only saw a horizontal line across the screen. It was really bad solder on the vertical sweep IC. - Reinhart |

Sony tv repair question
Even if you did have this current problem fixed because of it's older
age it could start having multiple problems so I would advise against getting an almost 20 year old TV repaired. Since I know how work on TVs I'll work on vintage Sony 's. I just fixed a 13" 1983 for my bedroom & in 1986 I fixed a late 70's 19" Sony for our cabin & it's been working great ever since with such a great picture it rivals new TVs. Mark |

Mark One of the many reasons why I love Sony televisions. Their old sets work like a charm and their new sets are also excellent, provided you don't buy their lowest end models. - Reinhart |
