Default Zenith TV IQB32B42W 9-2102 More Info (Black Screen)

Hi,
I have a Zenith 32" TV IQB32B42W 9-2102 in my shop with black screen (menu
can't be seen), but good sound. Customer said picture would come on after a
while, but no more. Since my other post, I discovered that by turning up the
"screen", the picture would come on and remain on even when I return the
"screen" to it's original position. Note: Screen voltage about +370V. The
picture remains on until I turn off the set. Afterwards, I have to do the
same thing (advance "screen") everytime the TV is turned on to get a
picture!!! What may be the cause of this problem?

Thanks in advance, Brad

Tip for your old computer (reduce discard pollution too):

If you can't sell your old computer, don't throw it away. Use it to backup
your software by transferring files/folders from your new computer or laptop
to it. I transferred my Windows folder and other stuff to my old computer
using "PC Link", which I downloaded from www.simtel.net (cool site).

Bad picture tube. Once the AKB has an ok to turn the tube on, it will stay
until the set is turned off.

Check the resistors on the crt pcb, something like 180K that go bad or
increase in value. Those can sometimes cause this as well, but usually it
is the picture tube.

Hi,

I want to thank you, David, Andy, and anyone else who offered their help.

I tested the CRT twice and the emission on all guns are in the "good"
zone. The picture does look as though the picture tube is "soft". I
checked the heater V. using a true rms DMM (aok). I also tested most
parts on CRT pcb and related. I checked (made minor adj) the RGB Cut & Gain
via service menu. Via customer menu, if I turn the brightness to minimum, I
can still see the picture (contrast set about 30%). I noticed that adjusting
the brightness from min to max did not make a big change in the brightness as
I have seen in other Zenith sets. Note: "EZ picture" is at "custom".
The SM on this TV does not explain the reason/s for blanking the CRT, such
as caused by low emissions (weak CRT) or other? Note: Loss of V. deflection
is a good reason to blank a CRT.

I remember a Sony TV with an open gun that caused a black screen because
of a "balance detector".

A service magazine that I subscribed to for years has "dried up". I will
have to buy some books so I can keep up with the latest technology.
