This television works for a seemingly random period of time and then shuts
itself off. at this point you cannot turn it back on without unplugging it
and leaving it unplugged for a good half hour. sometimes it works for hours
other times for only a ten minutes. I got this tv as a gift and I know the
previous owner had it repaired once. Any Ideas on what could be wrong?

Any ideas?
With such a description of the problem and no chassis number., the guesses
are too long to try and list here.

How about posting the chassis number and some basic troubleshooting to try
and narrow down the area first.

This is generally caused by parts in the power supply, or protection
circuits, or the scan circuits that have become thermo sensitive. When they
heat up, they go off value.

If you have an experienced service technician troubleshoot the set for you,
he can fix the problem. These types of problems are something that I would
not recommend you do yourself, unless you are equipped, and prepared to do
TV servicing. There are also many safety issues to deal with when working
on TV sets.

Rich,

You are not a repair tech...do NOT attempt to repair this your self. Call
some local shops and firm up a flat repair rate with a good warrantee ( 6
Months or better)

I won't even start to explain the problems this CTC187 will have.
