Is it possible to use a laptop as the usb mon/kybd on a mini lunux pc
(eg minix, raspberry pi..)? On the BeagleBoard systems, the board "publishes" an RNDIS network interface widget, and runs a DHCP server on it. So, if you plug the board into your laptop via a USB cable, the your laptop "sees" another network interface appear (complete with IP-address service). You can then run any sort of terminal emulator you want on your laptop, and access the BeagleBoard via a "ssh" network session. |

Simple, cross platform, just works. I can access my desktop wirelessly from Android or Windows mobile or linux or... It's hard to find the linux version of VNC. Some distros have it installed by default. Different linux versions behave differently. vino, xvnc x0vnc are some of the names used. There are remote desktops for linux. And the usual remote login if you run a x-server on your laptop. Xming works on windows. Not usb, but networked. |

Then, run a terminal program on the laptop, one which will work with a usb port. Then, a crossover cable, maybe. Ive never tried this,it'd be your risk! |

I prefer PuTTY, but there are others. One can even set up the laptop as an X terminal, so all that beautiful GUIness doesn't go to waste. This is completely standard. I missed the part about using the laptop as a monitor. If it was just for a keyboard, that would be a waste, one can now get keyboards complete with touchpads in them. I paid two dollars for one last year at a garage sale, it looks like a laptop keyboard, but in a case. Plugged it into my Linux computer, and it ran without any configuring needed. Michael |

Thanks to all.
If I do this, it won't be the permanent solution, just used to set up the device, which I would give to an elder relative attached to his TV. - = - Vasos Panagiotopoulos, Columbia'81+, Reagan, Mozart, Pindus, BioStrategist http://www.panix.com/~vjp2/vasos.htm ---{Nothing herein constitutes advice.
