Default Sony DAV - S800 Remote ...

Anyone (preferably UK) got a remote for a Sony DAV-S800 home cinema kicking
about up the corner that they would like to flog me cheap ? Alternatively,
anyone know for sure if any of the other DAV series remotes such as for the
S300 or 400 or 550 or 880 for instance, will control at least the sound
setup and control functions of an '800 ?

TIA

Ah. Useful info. The remote is an RMSS800. Looking at my service manual,
which is for both the '500 and the '800 units, just the one remote is
specified, so it looks like the same remote might well be used for all
models in the series. I'll dig out the manuals for the '300 and '400 and do
some further investigations to see if that is indeed the case. Thanks.

Yes, I saw that one, but I'm not convinced that it is a 'fully functional'
remote for that machine. I picked up the unit from a shop that I do repairs
of such equipment for. In fact it was one that I repaired for him some time
back, but which the customer never then picked up. I was interested in it
because it is a full 5.1 channel amp (as well as a DVD player) with an
optical input and multimode Dolby decoder. I thought it would do a good job
of hanging on the end of my Sky sat receiver, to improve the sound and give
full surround decode on my new TV.

I have hooked it all in, and it does indeed work reasonably well, but it
needs the levels adjusting to match my room, and the surround and centre
speakers that I have on it, as its own were missing. To get at the setup
functions for the sound, you need the remote, and specifically, a button
called "amp". The unit's own remote was of course missing - hence the reason
that I need one. The £9.99 remote does not seem to have that "amp" button,
or quite a lot of the other buttons that the Sony original has, which leads
me to believe that it is a restricted function 'clone' of the original.

I have now found another guy on fleabay selling one from Poland for about 15
quid including postage. He claims to have plenty in stock. Although this one
does not *look* the same as the original 'glow-in-the-dark' one that came
with these machines, it does at least say "Sony" on it, as well as
"RMSS-800", and does appear to have all of the buttons that the original
had, so I might go down that route. It's just so frustrating to think of all
of examples that have passed through my hands over the years, including
those that have been rejected quotes, and just returned to the shops that
they came from, probably to finish up eventually in the bin. Just thought
that there might be someone on here that had one kicking about gathering
dust at the back of the bench ...
