Python2 garage door opener - problem resolved
Model ocg600ml
34513 control board with date stamp 12-27/01 This unit had been in service for 2 or 3 years (installed by the builder during construction of a new house). Symptoms: intermittent reversal, stopping mid-track, occasional loss of power to wall-mounted button, occasional complete power off at end of travel (door opened but light turned off when door stopped in the up position) Testing: Unplugging the unit from the AC receptacle and plugging it back in sometimes brought it back to life (briefly) and sometimes not. Touching the housing sometimes brought it back to life (briefly) and sometimes not. Went looking for a bad solder joint - not common with a wave-soldered board, but it was an *intermittent* problem. The connections to the transformer pins looked "cold". Perhaps the pins were not cleaned adequately at the factory, perhaps the wave tank wasn't hot enough to handle the larger pins. Resolution: Resoldered the transformer pins to the board, using "real" solder (60/40 from 20 years ago). Opened and closed the door 8 times without any glitches. My daughter has not reported any further problems with the garage door opener ;-) John Email he ads at wizardanswers dot com |
