Default Wega nearly dead

This Sony KV36FS320 flashes the Timer LED nine times when the power button is
pressed, and that's all. The schematic is not very helpful with regards what
is supposed to be active when the set is off, but the 7.5V standby supply is
working as is the +5V checked at the front panel button board. What is the
next step? Sony suggests replacing the controller board. Any better ideas?
Thanks for any help!

Ray
