Default CRT face down

Hello

I have a 17 inch flat surface CRT monitor which I want to test when it
is powered and with the screen face down on a towel. Can it damage the
CRT tube in this way or do I have to test in a normal way, setting the
monitor horizontal.
Thx

Bever
