My TV appears to turn on and the red standby/power on light comes on
and flashes like it normally does when warming up for a few seconds,
but the picture or sound never appear. It just flashes. I try to
power it off and it sounds like it is clicking off, but the red light
continues to flash.

I am trying to decide if this is something that is worth fixing ($100
or less) at a repair shop or if this is something that I could
potentially fix myself.

Does anyone have any experience with this type of problem? Any advice?

What's the model number? Does the blink occur in any particular pattern?

Also what's your skill level when it comes to electronics? This is not
likely to be a project for the complete novice but if you've fixed a few
simpler TV's before you might be able to do it.
