Canon BCI-24 cartridges - ink detection
How do Canon inkjet printers determine the ink level in cartridges
such as the BCI-24C and BCI-24BK? These are merely plastic, foam filled ink tanks. When the cover is opened, the printer asks whether a cartridge has been changed, so it appears that the ink levels can be initialised at this time. Does the printer's uP then keep a count of the "squirts" for each colour, or does it somehow sense the inkflow, or absence thereof, through the nozzles? Maybe it senses a rise in the temperature of the printhead? I ask this because I've started refilling my cartidges and don't want to run the risk of running my printhead dry. - Franc Zabkar -- Please remove one 'i' from my address when replying by email. |

There certainly doesnt seem to be anything that shows on the tanks. -- Regards ......... Rheilly Phoull |

Regards Lee Inviato da X-Privat.Org - Registrazione gratuita http://www.x-privat.org/join.php I remember reading somewhere that some drivers simply "guess" at how much ink should be used and use that guesstimate to tell you when to replace the ink cartridges. Perhaps what you described is the same thing interpreted differently. I kinda miss the old days of bubble jets where they simply ran out of ink. No more text on the page, the ink's done. My HP gives me an "unknown error" that I've since figured out to mean "I think I'm out of ink." Puckdropper -- www.uncreativelabs.net Old computers are getting to be a lost art. Here at Uncreative Labs, we still enjoy using the old computers. Sometimes we want to see how far a particular system can go, other times we use a stock system to remind ourselves of what we once had. This information count can be reset by holding down two buttons on the panel, powering on with the cord.
