Default troubleshooting Panasonic cordless KX-TG2248S

Hello All:

I have a Panasonic Cordless Phone model KX-TG2248S on the bench. It's
symptom is a flashing "E3" error code and no operation.

I have 3.3 Vcc at several test points, but near where the 6V B+ enterts
the PCB, there is a transistor that looks a bit overheated, and
measures a short on C, B, and E. I have not removed it from the
circuit, but I am certain it is probably junction shorted. The xsistor
is marked "D1758" which I think crosses to a NTE2526.

Anyhow, does anyone know what circuit this xsistor is working in
(perhaps a pass transistor to a regulated circuit)?

Thanks for any advice. Take care,

Bill
