Default Zenith PVR4663RK fades to black

A good friend of mine that lives behind the house has a set with this issue.
it
was so intermittent, i never really started to look for the trouble, because
those problems are hard to chase down, and wasnt happening quick enough to
do anything.

But one day it did happen to fade out with no picture, i caught it, and it
still had high voltage present from the flyback, and sound. All 3 filiments
were out cold. if you continued to let it run like this, it would never come
back. it would only come back if you turned it off, and right back on. Then
the filiments would light, and ther would be a picture. but it was very
sporatic, showing no signs till about 2 hours, sometimes 2 days. it was very
sporatic.

its now gotten to the point where it is happening every 10 minutes, and it
wont come right back on when the TV power is recycled.

I'm assuming solder joints, but it wouldnt make any since, if it would NEVER
come back untill after the set is instantly recycled, now its getting worse,
where recycling doesnt help, and has to sit for an hour at least.

So anything to check besides obvious solder joints? I have already in the
past resoldered the board around the flyback, and it was sporatic at that
time, I didnt know if it would fix it or not, and it didnt.

If you've only resoldered around the flyback, you're about a 10th of
the way done. That board at this age requires extensive resoldering and
for the filament, you'll need to desolder the standup 'daughter' board
towards the front and hit that good. That's the interface for the 200
volt line as well as the filament.

Very common problem on those sets. Ditto this advice.
