Default Tektronix oscilloscope focus pot.

Hi,
I am trying to source a 2.2Meg PIHER focus potentiometer for a Tektronix
2225 Oscilloscope.
The pot is marked 2M2 827 and is of all plastic construction.
It has to withstand 2KV potential.
Can anyone give me any pointers on how to find one of these pots.

Judging by your e-mail addr, you are in the uk, so you might try the company
" Stewart of Reading ". They specialise in sales, repairs and refurbishment
of test equipment, and in particular, 'scopes.

They've got a website where you can get contact details. If they can't help
you direct, they can probably point you at someone who can.

Default Tektronix oscilloscope focus pot.

Best of luck sourcing this ... I had a similar problem not long ago with a
CRT grid bias pot, and had the devil's own job finding a suitable
substitute - in the end a friend found something out of his "junk box" which
he'd stripped from a LOPT.

Piher might be able to help, but you can bet its not a stock item ...

I contacted Piher UK and they say they stopped making focus pots 8-10 years
ago.
They have suggested I try Panasonic as they make TV's.I will try this
anyway.
It would be a shame to waste a good scope because of one part.

Perhaps as a last resort you could wire in some resistors and use a standard
pot with a plastic shaft? To reduce the voltage across the pot you'll lose
some adjustment range but if you select the components correctly it should
do the trick and be an adequate bodge. It certainly better than dumping the
scope.

Have you tried contacting Deane Kidd? It's been some time since I spoke with
him but presume he's still around. He retired from Tek after 43+ years and has
a houseful (literally) of parts and manuals. He's supplied me with unobtanium
relays and other bits over the years.

That is what I would do,after contacting Tektronix to make sure they are
not still selling parts for that unit.
www.tek.com,check the LTPS(long term product support) section.
If it's listed in the obsolete category,then they will not be selling any
parts for it.

If that pot is mounted on the main board and not the front panel,then you
could insulate it to prevent arcing to other components,and IIRC,it
probably already uses a plastic shaft.(that's how my 2213 is)

You may not even have to add extra resistors,just use a regular 2 Megohm
pot. I doubt it will throw off the focus string.

Try it,it will not hurt anything.

BTW,check the serial number,if it begins with a J,then it's a Japanese made
scope,and if with a T,then Taiwan-made. Only B prefixes are US made TEK
products.(H= Heenvereen,UK)

No problem,I did not even notice the spelling -)-)-)
Only the UK looked funny,I was born 30 miles from
Heerenveen and I assure you it wasnt UK.
