A bit complicated. Not so much repair as setup.
I got a new Television a few weeks ago and it's my first widescreen (philips). I was wondering could someone answer a couple of questions about it. This is the problem: when I switch the tv on from standby or from the on switch it always goes to bbc1 (RF)(first channel) the format always goes onto super zoom mode (a screen filling mode). We normally watch tv via a ski digi box it is set up for widescreen. So I then have to switch on the sky box then switch to the av(1) channel for sky then switch through the screen modes(x6) to get to widescreen. If I go to an RF channel it goes to super zoom mode nessecitating the screen mode switch dance again. Is there anyway that the tv can be set to that it will stay on widescreen, or failing that switch to widescreen when I switch to av1(sky). Setup: sky box connected to video and tv using scart. dvd connected to tv using scart video connected to tv using scart RF from rooftop ariel going through sky box then tv and another tv (sky box has 2 rf outputs). The tv has 3 scart sockets 1 scart which has sky attached is audio/video inputs and rgb 2 scart which has dvd attached is audio/video s-vhs 3 scart has audio video input and the video is attached. The sky box has two scart outputs, it appears that the top scart does no screen format switching or channel switching and the bottom does. Now when I connect the bottom scart sky output to scart 1 of the tv, the tv turns onto sky when sky is turned on etc, ok. But bbc 1 (first channel) via RF is superimposed by sky. When the sky box is turned off the RF bbc 1 comes back on. This does not happen when using the top scart output from the sky box but then I have no screen/channel switching. Now you might say why do you need rf bbc1 rf anyway? Well the sky box is connected to my daughters tv so she can watch sky if we are watching one of the rf channels, this is not possible if one of them is being 'blocked'. So the questions a how can I get the tv to format switch automatically and keep bbc1(rf) using the bottom sky box scart connector or stay on widescreen permanently and save me switching through the screen modes. The ideal situation would be if I switched the sky box on the tv would switch over to av(1) and go onto widescreen mode. Thanks for any input Steven |

I see a similar problem often with ntl digiboxes. The problem is with your
TV. If you search through the onscreen menu (on TV), look for an option called AUTO ASPECT, AUTO SCREEN MODE or something similar- you want to switch that OFF. On some TV's you need to repeat it on every channel (including AV1, AV2 etc). Now it's down to your TV, set the screen size you want. Some TV's only remember one setting, some remember the setting for each channel. Good luck! Also, for good measure, explore the digibox menu's to set the screen size to what you want (not familiar with sky, but I assume you can). Let us know how you get on. Thanks for the reply.
I already switched the automatic mode off, it's a global setting and unfortunately there are no individual channel settings. I also have the sky box switched to widescreen. There must be something in the bottom scart connector on the digi box that pushes the sky channel through onto bbc 1. I tried cutting wires 20 and then 19 in the scart lead but this only resulted in no sky signal at all. If I find a solution I'll post it. It's more of a nuisance than anything. Probably really obvious, I'm assuming you have tried other scart leads- I
get through loads of cheap ones and I get problems with about 10% of them. M. "Steven" wrote in message ng.com... Thanks for the reply. Yes I've tried a couple. I actually had to dump one as I was getting
ghosting with it when I first connected up.
