Default Toshiba 27AF43 vs Sony FS120

I was comparing both the Toshiba 27AF42 to the Sony FS120 and from
viewing the two it looks like the Toshiba has a better image quality on
weaker signals than does the Sony. Has anyone else noticed this ?
maybe it was just the video feed at the store.

Thanks,
Chris

Chris:
Actually, Sony usually pull in the weak signal better than Toshiba or
JVC.
Maybe the store wiring was not feeding each one in exactly the same
way... like maybe the Sony had another splitter or two ahead of it as
compared to the Toshiba....
..... as you probably already know, "in the store" is NOT a very
controlled test.

This could be from many varibles, including how the sales staff may
have messed around with the set. I would not trust a demo set on the
floor to be an absolute criteria. If the store has a return policy,
then there should be no problem to exchange the set if you don't like
it.

Ok I went to another store and saw the opposite. the Toshiba had the
bad image and the Sony looked fine. One last question I've seen a
couple of Sony FS120's one with a red splotch in the upper left corner
and today a little red along the lower left corner. I imagine they run
these tv's 18 hours a day so suspect the picture tube is going bad but
wondered how likely I'll experence this problem. I am planning on
getting the 4 yr extended warrenty for $59.

Thanks,
Chris

Colour splotching (an uneven discoloration in the picture), is caused
by a purity error. This is usally from a magnetic field near to the
set, or from the set being rough handled, and there is some damage, or
the purity setup is out of adjustment. It is also possible to have a
damaged picture tube, from rough handling of the set during transport.

I got the Sony FS120 and so far seems pretty nice. No picture problems
just a slight buzzing sound coming from inside which I can only hear if
I'm less than 3 feet away from the set.
