Default beocenter 9500 powers up but has CD.dE + timer light on - nothing else works

hi

elderly beocenter that used to work fin & has not been used for about a
year.

tired to use it today & came up with the timer light + CO.dE on the display.

not aware of any security features on the machine (manual lost ages ago) any
idea's
