Default Head wear query

** See close up of quarter inch play head from a Roland tape echo machine -
the other two play heads and the record head look just the same.

A. What the heck happened ?

B. What is the easiest way to re-surface the heads ?

..... Phil

Looks like someone loaded a sanding belt instead of a tape loop...

Dunno, polishing out with jeweler's rouge or buffing compound applied to a
tape running past the heads may work. Some of the metal face shield is not
too thick. Got to make sure that the surface is kept flat. I'd rather remove
the heads and manually lap against a glass plate (or known flat surface)
with fine abrasive applied to it.

"Mike Blake"

Did you resurface the heads ??

** Yep.

Used a 3M kitchen scourer plus liquid hand wash - only 20 seconds of back
and fro motion needed.

if so how did it turn out ??

** Usable result - became near perfect after an hour with the tape
running.

See "before " and " after " pics of same head.

Thanks for you concern.

Is that the green coloured scourer ?? (looks like coarse felt)
I was thinking of using some fine wet and dry paper on the glass.

** The face surface of the ( Roland) heads all seem to be made from
stainless steel - so not possible to re-shape by any of the usual means.

Most tape heads have brass ( or similar non-magnetic) face plates.
