yeah , i have to agree with you that the inverter is fine at this point ..
oh well i guess its time to send it to gateway .. would be better to do that
then guess at buying parts , that could possibly cost me more .... thanks to
all who replied ....

If the screen whites out it definitely isn't the inverter, that would
cause the screen to go completely dark. It sounds to me like the typical
symptoms of a cracked LCD ribbon cable. Either that or the electronics on
the LCD is failing.
