Try copper pipe. It's not tapered but I remember using it once and it
worked fine. Not sure what size - 3/4" or 1". If you are dead set on
the taper, drill a tapered hole in something like rock maple, turn a
tapered ram to fit, put the copper pipe in the tapered hole and use the
ram to size it.
