If you try that, two extra suggestions:

Make sure the bits of wood miss the blade's teeth, or you may squeeze
the teeth in a bit and reduce the "set".

Give the spanner on the outside nut a sharp tap rather than a steady
push.

Depending on the size, number of teeth, etc, it may be worth having your
old blade reground and re-tensioned by a specialist firm. If it was a
good quality blade to start with, it can be much cheaper than a new
blade of similar quality, even if it's a tipped blade and needs a few
new tips.
