One way:
m = do / (t+2)

with: m = module; do = diameter (outer), t = #of teeth

Or the other way (with two meshing gears):
m = dist * 2 / (t1 + t2)

with:
dist.: distance between axles
t1, t2: # of teeth of gear1 & gear2
m: module
