Good idea Doug. I would suggest adding a street ell on the end of the
added nipple with the open end directed down and then capped. Less
potential mess on the nipple threads.

Ahhh, even better! I think I'll do that on my mower (John Deere STX-38, which
suffered from the same problem as the OP's MTD). Thanks!
