Well, I use a cheapo cordless recip with an 8" wet-wood pruning blade and
it's great .... not for 4" trunks, but it works real good for cleaning up
those
branches that are too big for clippers ( 1/2").

Whatever works for you...
1" is easiest to do with a hand saw.
