Probably a silly question but is there an accepted limit as to how close a
built in microwave has to be from the wall. By that, I mean once it's slid
into the cabinet, does there need to be a certain amount of clearance at
the rear?

There has to be *some* clearance - it usually says in the 'structions if you
can find them.
