This is a very successful group with loads of good advice.
However, because it is so popular, a thread is 'dead and buried' far down
the list within a couple of days very often leaving questions unanswered.

Not sure how it is done, but may I suggest splitting this group into some
new groups:
uk.d-i-y.building
uk.d-i-y.electrical
uk.d-i-y.plumbing
uk.d-i-y.carpentry
uk.d-i-y.misc
(uk.d-i-y.tools+appliances)

I've never seen a *thread*, such as is displayed and indexed by any
competent newsreader (Mozilla Thunderbird, Forte Free Agent or Agent,
tin, trn, ...) get "buried". Maybe you should try a real newsreader.

uk.d-i-y works. Its volume is well below that of other also-unsplit,
also-successful groups. d-i-y is necessarily "multi-trade", and
splitting it up is a waste of time, and a disservice to all - regular
contributors, lurkers, and newbies alike.
