This is a very successful group with loads of good advice.
However, because it is so popular, a thread is 'dead and buried' far down
the list within a couple of days very often leaving questions unanswered.

Not sure how it is done, but may I suggest splitting this group into some
new groups:
uk.d-i-y.building
uk.d-i-y.electrical
uk.d-i-y.plumbing
uk.d-i-y.carpentry
uk.d-i-y.misc
(uk.d-i-y.tools+appliances)

I don't really think that would work - the whole success of the group is due
to that fact that there are people here who both specialise in a particular
area but also have an interest/some knowledge in some other areas. This
means that people who may be experts in the electrical field might have
plenty of good plumbing advice and might also dabble in a litte plastering
and have an outspoken opinion about tools. If such a person were to only
subscribe to the eletrical group then their valuable contributions in other
areas would be sadly missed.
