I have a single switch down which controls a light near the front door it
also can be switched on or of by a double switch upstairs at the moment if
you have the upstairs switch in one position you cant switch the light on
or off. I also have another single switch down stairs which controls the
light at the top of the stairs. that is also controlled by the double
switch upstairs with that one the light only comes on by using the down
stairs switch. this all came about when I tried to replace the switches.
before I started I wrote down the way the switches were wired but I seem to
have gone wrong somewhere .
is there some where I can get a wiring diagram or can someone explain
where I have gone wrong

When you said you noted down which wires went where did you note down top
right top middle top left etc? or com L1 L2

If the first then you could find if you look at the back of your old and new
double (2 gang) switches that they may be arranged differently eg looking
at the top row of terminals one might be com L1 L2 the other L2 L1 com
Different makes of switches have the backs arranged differently

some are like /\ \/ and others \/ /\ the base of the V being the com

If so then the answer after looking at the faq would be to work out how the
circuits were wired originally com L1 L2 etc and then wire your new one up
with the wires going to the correct terminals
