You may be Welsh, if so thats often a reason for smell.

That's a bit of a ripe statement presumambly from the English who, according
to the numerous reality programs that we see on the "box" about council
clean-ups, always seem to live in houses full of s**t - as one poster here
said "its always in the carpets" - quite literally in your case.
