Default birdie umbilical cords

Did you know that baby birds have umbilical cords?

I guess that means they have belly buttons under their feathers!

I was watching a video about a parakeet who couldn't get himself
separated from his eggshell because of the cord, and the guy making the
video cut up the shell and then snipped the cord. I wonder if this
wouldn't have resolved itself without him in a day or so?

But these is about kiwis. About the size of a chicken, they lay a 5"
egg! Show your wife the x-ray in the first one and tell her she got off
easy.

They also have their nostrils at the end of their beaks, unlike other
birds whose nostrils are at the base!
